Director's Statement

Having grown up in Southern Oregon the fires that happened here this past year are extremely close to home. It is my friends, neighbors, and community members who were directly affected and lost their homes. Therefore, not making a film about this didn't feel like an option.

When we hear about a natural disaster in the news it is tragic but then the news moves on to the next thing. However, the community's struggles do not end with the news cycle - rebuilding takes years not months and oftentimes those most affected are also those with the scarcest opportunities to rebuild.

With this film, it is my intention to show the ongoing struggles in the aftermath of a natural disaster. I also wanted to acknowledge that with climate change, events like this are no longer a rarity, but something that we are all are experiencing more and more frequently.

However, it is not hopeless, there are actionable steps we can take to make sure to rebuild structures and systems so that they can be more stable and just for all.
